Burasari Heritage Luang Prabang

Since its inception as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995, Luang Prabang has become Ground Zero for all kinds of boutique hotels, ranging from the heights of luxury to family-run guesthouses. But when it comes to timeless charm, it’s hard to imagine anything better than the newly relaunched Burasari Heritage Luang Prabang, nestled along the bank of the Nam Khan River.

Housed inside a row of teak colonial-style bungalows, Burasari Heritage is classic Laos. Each of its 21 newly-renovated rooms feature opium beds paired with whimsical details such as nightstands disguised as vintage suitcases. Equally elegant are the open-concept bathrooms, boasting old-fashioned rain-showers and chic, black-and-white tiled floors.

When the time comes to explore the city, you needn’t head very far: Burasari Heritage enjoys a prime downtown location less than a 5 minute walk from iconic sights such as Wat Xieng Thong and the Royal Palace. Return home to soothe your aching feet with an expert massage at the in-house spa. It’s the perfect combination of style, convenience and romance – a winning combination that you can’t go wrong with.

Burasari Heritage Luang Prabang room views

Each of the 23 newly-renovated rooms at Burasari Heritage Luang Prabang feature traditional wood walls and decadent opium beds. We especially loved the open-concept bathrooms, each boasting magnificent old-fashioned rain-showers, marbled vanities and chic black-and-white tiled floors. For the best views, opt for the Deluxe Rooms with terraces or balconies overlooking the river, where you can relax with some afternoon tea. If wood is not your thing, the Deluxe Garden Rooms feature a white colour-scheme that echoes Laos’ colonial French days.

Vintage romance on the banks of the Nam Khan River, right in the heart of downtown Luang Prabang.

Food & Drink

The in-house Dining Room serves a variety of traditional Laotian and Thai dishes with a contemporary twist – think rich curries, handmade noodles and spring rolls. Most of the ingredients are locally sourced from the markets each morning, giving everything a wonderfully fresh taste.

You'll find a complimentary mini-bar stocked with bottled water, soft drinks and chilled Beer Lao that’s restocked daily. You can also help yourself to a selection of fine teas and organic local coffee. Room service is also available.

For dining out, take a short walk to L’Éléphant to enjoy sophisticated French cuisine in a beautiful, colonial setting. Alternatively, try their new outpost, L’Éléphant Vert, for a lighter and healthier menu (including excellent vegetarian and vegan options). For something more local, head down the road to sample traditional Sindad, or Laotian-style BBQ, in a riverside setting at Khem Khan Sin Dad. In the mornings, stop by Le Banneton for freshly baked croissants, baguettes and other delicious French pastries, accompanied by organic highland coffee or tea.

Burasari Heritage Luang Prabang activities

Treat yourself to a traditional Laotian spa treatment, scrub, body wrap, facial or manicure at Spa Burasari. There are luxurious baths for soaking in, while the herbal compresses will zap away all your tensions and leave you feeling ready for a brand-new day of sightseeing.

You don't have to travel very far to explore some of Luang Prabang's most iconic attractions, including Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Sensoukharam and the Royal Palace. However, if you feel like venturing further afield, the friendly staff can help arrange for various tours, including treks to hilltribe villages and waterfalls, mountain biking, kayaking and elephant riding. Finally, wake up before dawn to observe the daily procession of Buddhist monks along nearby Sakkhaline Road as they receive alms -- it's well worth the effort.
